“Anghel Saligny” Technical College Baia Mare

“Anghel Saligny” Technical College was founded as an organization, which had its own objectives to prepare specialists for constructions and architecture.

Our College was founded in 1963 by a group of people who had had specific and common objectives. It was constituted in close connection with the necessities here 40 years ago:

-          to build a town as modern as possible;

-          to take advantage of the beautiful landscape of our area Maramures;

-          To build schools, universities, theatres, cultural houses, hospitals, department stores, houses, factories, dams, roads, bridges and so an.

Right from the beginning “Anghel Saligny” Technical College functioned as a structure where its members: pupils, teachers principals put the bases of a specific place, based on responsibility, discipline, exigency, correctness, and high performance. These all were the basic principles, the values and the norms of our school.

There are also other elements which contribute to the whole of our school, such as:

-          40 years in which we gathered a lot of professional experience in the field of preparing our pupils;

-          the harmonized structure of our school – not only in the past but also nowadays our school has a large number of staff: didactic, not-didactic, auxiliary, etc.;

-          we have created some specific rituals, myths, stories, legends, a specific language, which well-used could be  our future organizational culture;

-          The specific of our activity and the nature of our work (educating and training the new generation) which brought us many satisfactions, both to the personnel and to our pupils (the graduates). Many of them could be considered “heroes” because of their substantial contribution to the organizational culture of our school;

-          Our good reputation both on local and national plan.

 

I. Future Prospects

      By the end of 2010 Anghel Saligny Technical College will have achieved recognition not only at a national level but also all over Europe because of the following elements:

-          finality of professional qualifications;

-          our graduate will be a good professional, a good citizen of Europe, able to use the IT language, able to handle a language of international recognition, or able to use artistic languages;

-          high level of education; high level of teaching-learning process – the student is placed in the middle of our educational system;

-          high level of motivation; our teachers and students are very well prepared from a professional point of view;

-          taking part, trough education and instruction, in the continuous development of our local community;

-          special educational experience offered to both local and national levels;

-          good organizational and intellectual climate offered to both teachers and students;

-          significant part occupied in our town’s representatives: Baia Mare – a learning town;

-          material resources – up to the required  technical standards – for the year 2006;

-          total respect and worship for teachers’ and students’ responsibility in taking decisions and actions.

-          knowledge and implement  of the European Union politics;

-          the responsibility of students’ parents towards the educational performance (act);

-          diversity of the curriculum offer;

-          attracting financial resources trough sponsorship;

-          promoting and sustaining (supporting) sports activities especially performing sports;

II. The Mission

                Anghel Saligny” Technical College’ s missions:

-          to offer education and instruction at high quality standards in a national and European context for students’ intellectual, social and professional development;

-          to assure human resources in profile preparation as premises for economical and cultural enrichment of the local community and even beyond that.

 

III. The present profile of the College

In accordance with the things we’ve already said, the technical-material basis and the changes which have taken place along the 40 years, were in close connection with the necessities imposed by the education reform, and according to the quantity and quality changes which took place within the development of the Romanian education.

From a value point of view, the situation of the material and technical basis of the “Anghel Saligny” Technical College , on a surface of about 1.000 acres is:

-          30 labs, classrooms and rooms;

-          1.000 square meters workshops having performing equipment (trough the Phare Project);

-          hostel for 250 pupils;

-          canteen  for three meals a day (300 meals/shift);

-          sports hall;

-          sports ground in the open;

-          library with over 30.000 books;

-          108 computers of which 80 used by pupils in four IT labs.

As far as the no of students is concerned, during  the academic year 2005 – 2006 “Anghel Saligny” Technical College works with a total number of the 1.398 students, gathered in 50 classes following:

                The teaching staff is made up of 42 teachers in ordinary, 38 substitute teachers, 6 transferred teachers. The level of the professional preparation of our teaching staff represents another indicator of the high standards to which our College rises:

-          36 first grade teachers;

-          17 second grade teachers;

-          24 tenure teachers;

-          7 debutant teachers.

 

Our College personal card is completed by the special results obtained by our pupils at the final exam: every year the graduation percentage was (graduation 95.36% period of June 2005), at the graduation exam of the school of arts and jobs (where the graduation percentage was always 98-100%) or by the results at the technical school contests on/or job contests, where at the national level, our students were classified on first places, for example: third and fourth place at 2005 national level of the technical contest in constructions and public work, and second place house painter an the national job contest, and  third place for constructors electrician and fourth place  for motor mechanic and joiner.

 

“Anghel Saligny” Technical College Baia Mare at this very moment is involved in a Phare Program with its main aim “Professional and Technical Updating Education in Romania”; having more components in three main categories:

-          institutional development (training programs for managers, teachers and technical teaching staff);

-          getting equipment;

-          infrastructure rehabilitation works (workshops and labs).
